On Tuesday (May 17th), Vera & Ben and my parents had to head home. The rest of us drove up to Lutsen, stopping in Duluth on the way, for 3 days of hiking, frisbee golfing, s'mores, swimming, fishing and simply having a fabulous time together on the North Shore!
Nicolas at the main pier in Duluth
running around chasing the pigeons
the boys with the well-known aerial lift bridge
Nina was happy to run around too!
Emma, Roberto y Nelly
of course the kids headed down to the shore to throw rocks in the lake
Nicolas warmed up to abuelo!
we went to Grandma's for lunch (famous in Duluth for its yearly marathon) and the kids loved playing on the mechanical rides
when we got to Lutsen Resort, the kids were again most excited to head down to the lake to throw rocks
Josh and his mate!
trying to move big rocks...
finally Josh showed them a good lever system to help :)
the resort had chairs set up for nightly campfires
happy abuelos!
we brought some boxes of "Bean Boozled" for the kids to enjoy (originally from Christa's mom actually) - they're made by Jelly Belly - the jelly beans come in pairs of flavors so you never know what you're going to get - the flavors in the box are:
'strawberry jam' or 'centipede'
'dog food' or 'chocolate pudding'
'skunk spray' or 'licorice'
'caramel popcorn' or 'moldy cheese'
'juicy pear' or 'booger'
'coconut' or 'baby wipes'
'top banana' or 'pencil shavings'
'berry blue' or 'toothpaste'
'peach' or 'vomit'
the kids were hilarious trying them, seeing if they would get a yummy jelly bean or a gross one!
poor Lucas and Zeke got yucky ones in these pictures!
it was absolutely hilarious to watch!
