On Friday (Jan 9th) we stayed pretty close to home. The kids napped all morning and then Meredith treated me to a haircut at an Aveda salon in Salem (thanks again Mer!). After that we took a quick tour of Salem. Even though it is the capital, it's really not that big of a city. Here are some highlights:
A view of the riverfront (Willamette River)On Saturday (Jan 10th), Brad needed to do some work in Hood River (Brad is a traffic engineer). Hood River is up in the Columbia River gorge area so after he got his work done, we saw some spectacular views of Mount Hood and then took the scenic drive home and stopped at Horsetail Falls and Multnomah Falls (one of the most famous in the area). It was probably the coldest day we experienced because we around so much water, but the whole area was so gorge-us!!! Ha ha. On the way home we stopped at Burgerville for dinner. The best part of dinner was definitely the free balloons. Poor Matias was so cranky and had a love-hate relationship going on with the balloons. And Lilian has such fine hair we had a great time watching her hair stand straight up!
Check out the crazy guy going kayaking in the river in the middle of the winter! This area is very popular for wind surfing in the summer

Looks like you guys had a blast. When I heard about the way sub-zero temperatures in Minnesota I thought about you--glad that you (well, you and Matias) escaped them :-). How fun to hang out with Meredith!
